ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lara Kittel is a South Australian emerging artist who lives and works on Kaurna Land. Kittel is predominately an oil painter and printmaker, with a focus on finding her place in the landscape in which she resides.

After Graduating from the Adelaide Central School of Art in 2022, she travelled to Goondiwindi Queensland, as a finalist for her work, That’s Awkward, in Bush Exchange’s, Heart of the Bush Exhibition, 2023.

The exhibition seeks to celebrate the heart of the Australian bush, its landscape and culture’ - Bush Exchange.

Kittel became interested in the local tourism and the surf culture of Port Noarlunga in South Australia, after recently taking up surfing. From Kittel’s explorations of the local area, she exhibited with local friend/artist Loeva Dunlevy at The Flour Store cafe. From this series of works, Kittel submitted her work, Parsons to the the 2023 Gallery M Contemporary Art Prize, in which she was successful in becoming a finalist. Kittel was awarded the $1,000 Ian Wilding Emerging Artist Prize.

Kittel currently resides in British Columbia, Canada and just completed a ski season, as a Level 2 Instructor during the 2023/2024 season. She is currently undertaking the Retreat Artist’s Residency in Lake Cowichan, British Columbia in which tourism in rural areas has become a key theme within her practice. Kittel is planning a group exhibition, with artist’s Emma Neill and Elise Clements called, The Disconnect at Floating Goose Studios, Adelaide in June 2024, with the idea that disconnection can both isolate and unite.
